Nagpur: Following heavy rains on Saturday, several parts of Nagpur experienced flood-like conditions. The municipal administration’s handling of post-rainfall scenarios has come under scrutiny. Addressing these concerns, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhary provided a detailed explanation in a press conference on Wednesday.

Commissioner Chaudhary acknowledged that the ongoing drainage system inadequacies are primarily responsible for the waterlogging issues. Additionally, he partially blamed cement roads for exacerbating the situation. He also informed that a survey is being conducted to assess the damages caused by the rainwater, and compensation will be provided to the affected residents.

According to the Commissioner, scientific solutions are being explored, with assistance from VNIT. The recent rains impacted 465 localities and affected more than 10,000 homes. He raised concerns about the intermingling of drainage and trunk lines, clogged with C&D waste and garbage, which worsens the problem.
