Nagpur: Cyclone Mandous over Kerala and Tamil Nadu led to moisture incursion and clouding in Nagpur city on Monday which resulted in sudden rise by 11.3 degrees Celsius in minimum temperature in the last 48 hours.
According to the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC), Nagpur city on Monday witnessed the minimum temperature of 21.2 degrees Celsius which was the highest minimum temperature of December in the last 15 years. At 21.2 degrees Celsius, the mercury level in Nagpur was 8.4 degrees above normal on Monday.
A couple of days ago, with 9.9 degree Celsius, the city witnessed the lowest minimum temperature of this winter. All of a sudden on Sunday the minimum temperature crossed 19 degrees Celsius mark, and on Monday, it crossed 21 degrees Celsius mark. As per the data provided by the RWFC, the previous highest minimum temperature of Nagpur was recorded 20 degrees Celsius on December 9 in the year 2010.
As per the prediction by India Meteorological Department (IMD), Nagpur also witnessed light showers on Monday morning and overcast weather throughout the day. The increase and decrease of winter chill in December depends on Northerly winds. If the wind pattern changes from Northerly to Southerly, the winter chill decreases. This normally happens during the last week of December and in the first week of January.
Like Nagpur, other parts of Vidarbha also witnessed a big change in minimum temperature in the last 24 hours. Gadchiroli, with 10.8 degrees Celsius on Sunday, recorded a big rise in minimum temperature by 7.8 degrees in just 24 hours. On Monday, Akola (21.4 degrees Celsius), Chandrapur (21.0 degrees Celsius), Wardha (21.5 degrees Celsius) and Yavatmal (21.0 degrees Celsius) also recorded the minimum temperature above 21 degree Celsius mark. Nagpur recorded the maximum temperature at 30.6 degrees Celsius. Akola, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Wardha and Washim also recorded the maximum temperature above 30 degree Celsius mark.
