Nagpur: A day after the clash that broke out in Jaripatka on Sunday, Congress party addressed a press conference here, at Press Club, Civil Lines. Congress leaders comprising MLA Vikas Thakre, Atul Londe, Vishal Muttemwar along with the women and men accused of hooliganism were present on this occasion.
Speaking on this occasion, Congress workers contended that Babu Khan is no criminal but a social worker, who has been tirelessly working for the benefit of the society. BJP is fueling communal hatred with the help of false narrative, the Congress members said on this occasion.
Interacting with the media, Babu Khan said that locals have been subjected to acute sewer problems due to the apathy of Nagpur Municipal Corporation. Despite writing several times and appealing to the local corporator (Kukreja) no concrete efforts were being taken. Following which a local woman approached me and we decided to speak with Kukreja.
I along with a delegation of local women visited Kukreja’s office with our grievances on Sunday morning. Kukreja was constantly turning blind eye towards their plight. Instead of listening to our problems, Kukreja and his supporters assaulted us. Following which we approached Jaripatka Police. However, the cops were influenced by the BJP leaders as despite the incident that occurred at around 11 am; Jaripatka Police kept us hanging till evening and registered an FIR at 6 pm, Khan said.
Speaking on this occasion, MLA Vikas Thakre said that it is the sole responsibility of elected representatives to hear public grievances. However, the behavior locals were subjected to by the BJP corporator is not acceptable. The cops should probe the matter, and punish the guilty, he said.
