Nagpur: The Anti-Human Trafficking Squad of the Nagpur Crime Branch nabbed an absconding accused who is the member of interstate gang involved in selling infants to the issueless couples for lakhs of rupees. He was arrested from Akashwani Square in the city.
The squad trapped Maqbool Khan Ahmed Khan (43), a resident of Amoli, Lalbara, district Balaghat (MP) and handed him over to Ambazari Police for further investigation in the similar case registered with them. The accused Maqbool is the husband of Shweta Khan, the mastermind behind the baby selling racket.
It may be mentioned that after putting behind bars Shweta Khan alias Ayesha, Sachin Patil, Vishal Chandwani, his sister and her husband and others, the squad served a notice under Section 41 of CrPC to Dr Praveen Ratansingh Bais(39), a resident of Plot No 4, New Bidipeth, Santoshi Mata Nagar. In connivance with other racketeers, Dr Bais, who allegedly claimed to be a paediatrician, had set-up a fake hospital — Baby Care – near Mahakalkar Sabhagruha, to show that the babies were legally handed over to childless couples for adoption.
The arrest was made by a team including Woman API Rekha Sankpal, API Gajanan Chambhare, and constabulary staff under the supervision of Additional CP (Crime) Navinchandra Reddy, DCP (Crime) Mummaka Sudarshan, and ACP (Crime) Roshan Pandit. Police are trying to crack some more cases of child kidnapping and illegal adoptions to rescue the babies.
It may be recalled that one more case of selling a newborn baby has come to light in Nagpur. Shweta Khan, the mastermind in the case of selling an eight-month-old baby from Kalamna police station limits, had reportedly sold a 4-day-old newborn baby to a couple from Gujarat. Hudkeshwar police registered a fourth case against Shweta Khan in this matter.
The accused have been identified as Vinay Sultayani (36), resident Varasia Vadodara, and his wife Monica Vinay Sultayani (31), and Vishal Chandwani. According to the information provided by the police, during the investigation, Seema alias Parveen Ansari (40) and Shweta alias Ayesha Khan (45) and Sachin Patil (40) were interrogated by the Crime Branch.
Subsequently, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of Nagpur police rescued the baby girl from a couple in Baroda, Gujarat, who had purchased her for around Rs 3 lakh in September when she was four-days-old, from child selling racket kingpin Shweta Khan alias Ayesha. Paediatrician Praveen Singh Bais too has been named as accused on the basis of information revealed by the racketeers, said media reports.
