Bad news: Captured problem tiger dies during treatment at Gorewada

Nagpur: In a disturbing incident and bad news for wildlife enthusiasts, a full-grown tiger, which was tranquillised in Parseoni forest area, died during treatment in Gorewada Rescue Centre on Sunday evening. The tiger was frequently venturing into nearby villages and causing panic among villagers for the past several days. On Sunday, a forest team tranquillised the tiger around 3.30 pm and brought the big cat to the Gorewada Rescue Centre for treatment.

Around 7.45 pm, the tiger breathed its last while under treatment. According to Dr Bharat Singh Hada, Deputy Conservator of Forest, Nagpur, the tiger was frequently venturing into nearby human settlements and killed many cattle in villages of Parseoni taluka. After monitoring the movement of the big cat, they decided to tranquillise the tiger which was probably injured and unable to hunt inside the forest. The cause of death of the tiger is yet to be confirmed and it will be clear after the post-mortem which will take place on Monday morning.

As per reports, there was immense panic among villagers of Parseoni taluka as the tiger was regularly visiting villages in the area to kill cattle. In the past two months, the tiger killed more than 35 cattle. The locals were demanding the capture of the tiger by the Forest Department. A forest team tied a bait on agricultural land to capture the tiger near Palora village. When the tiger came to kill the bait, the team tranquilized the big cat. The capture of the tiger took place as per the guidelines of National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).
