Nagpur: UNIT-III of Crime Branch raided two places in Tehsil and Lakadganj areas and seized banned scented tobacco and flavoured areca nuts collectively valued at Rs 9.82 lakh on Monday.
Acting on a tip off, cops raided a godown at Poonam Janki building, Sudam Galli, Itwari.The raiding party found stockpiled with illegal scented tobacco. Cops seized scented tobacco, including boxes of Baba Black, Baba 120, and ‘Rajnigandha worth Rs 9.80 lakh and took godown owner Kailash Omprakash Sarda (50), a resident of Thakkar Building, Hadloom Market, into custody.
Similarly, the police team raided a paan kiosk near Nikalas Mandir, Fawara Chowk, Itwari and seized scented tobacco worth Rsw 2,500. Cops arrested paan kiosk owner Suhas Gangadhar Mandavgade (45) in this connection.
Separate cases under Sections 188, 272, 273, 328 of the Indian Penal Code, read with Sections 30(1), 26(1), 26(2)(IV ), 27(3)e, 30(2), (a), 59 of Food Safety and Standards Act have been registered against Sarda and Mandavgade at Tehsil and Lakadganj Police Stations respectively.
The raids were conducted by PI Pradeep Raynawar, PI Pawan Morey, PI Madhuri Nerkar and others under the supervision of Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar, Additional CP (Crime) Sunil Fulari, DCP (Detection) Chinmay Pandit and ACP (Crime) Roshan Pandit.
