Nagpur: Mahavitaran (Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited) has issued an advisory urging Nagpurians to stay vigilant around public and domestic electrical installations and equipment during the monsoon season. The MSEDCL highlighted the increased risk of electrical accidents due to storms, heavy rains, floods, fallen trees and branches, broken power lines, and short circuits in electrical systems.

Due to the potential for adverse conditions and hazards arising from floods or heavy rains, the supply to transformers is often cut off as a precautionary measure. Mahavitaran urged cooperation from electricity consumers during such situations. The risk of electrical accidents increases with broken power lines, damaged power poles, roadside feeder pillars, iron fences around transformers, fuse boxes, and wet electrical appliances at home. Other potential hazards include wet agricultural pump switchboards and other damp objects near electrical systems.

Since water conducts electricity, it is crucial to protect electrical equipment from water during the rainy season. Heavy rains and strong winds can cause trees and branches to fall on power lines, resulting in bent poles, broken or dangling wires. There is a possibility of live wires, so it is essential to stay away from such wires and avoid attempting to touch or remove them.

The MSEDCL said that if such incidents are observed, immediately contact Mahavitaran for assistance. Ensure that switchboards and various electrical appliances at home do not come into contact with moisture. Verify the integrity of the household power supply system. Use specific aluminum alloy wires instead of copper for fuse wires. Always turn off all devices from the switchboard when not in use. In rural areas, avoid tying animals to electric poles.

Engineers and field staff face significant challenges in restoring power supply during monsoon disruptions. They often work under adverse conditions, including at night and during heavy rains. To facilitate their work, consumers are requested to refrain from repeatedly calling the engineers and instead lodge complaints through Mahavitaran’s Central Customer Service Centre at 18002-212-3435 or 1800-233-3435 (toll-free).

Complaints can also be registered via the Mahavitaran mobile app and the website www.mahadiscom.in. To report a power outage, give a missed call to 022-50897100 from the registered mobile number, or send an SMS with “NOPOWER Consumer Number” to 9930399303. The “Urja Chat Bot” is also available for 24×7 direct assistance.

Mahavitaran has implemented several facilities to keep customers updated on electricity-related issues during the monsoon and to reduce the number of complaints. The organization encouraged customers to register their mobile numbers to benefit from these services.

By adhering to these guidelines and using the available facilities, citizens can help ensure safety and minimize the risk of electrical accidents during the monsoon season.
