Nagpur: After two years of groping in the dark in a hunt for one of the absconding accused in the sensational murder of a businessman Bharat Khatwani, Sitabuldi police have finally managed to arrest him during a routine exercise on Tuesday night. The accused has been identified as Sheikh Shakeel Sheikh Saleem, 26, who has been at large post the murder that took place in 2015 in Sitabuldi’s busy electronic market.
Police sources informed that some of the accused were arrested back in 2015 and Shakeel was also allegedly involved in the crime. He had been absconding since then.
During a routine patrol on Tuesday night, the cops spotted a youth trying to hide himself from them. Suspecting the person, the policemen intercepted him near Pakode wala shop in Sitabuldi and inquired his whereabouts. As he revealed his name, the cops recognised him. A sharp edged weapon was also recovered from his possession.
Sitabuldi police station incharge Satyavir Bandiwar, constable Ajay Kale, Sipahi Abdul, Kamlesh and Chandu Kadam are part of the team which conducted the exercise.
Meanwhile Shakeel has been produced in the court on Wednesday.Shakeel has reportedly confessed to have been involved in Khatwani’s murder. Earlier the cops had arrested other accused Saurabh alias Amba Vilas Ambatkar, resident of Shaniwar basti in Ganeshpeth; Shubham Deorao Ramteke, 20 and Dinesh Jadhav, 20, both residents of Gujjarwadi in Ganeshpeth, Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Saleem, Akash alias Kalya Chandrasen Sarod, 21, resident of Telipura.
