Nagpur: In a big boost to Mihan, a 20.13 hectares of zudpi-jungle land has been handed over to multi-modal international cargo hub and airport at Nagpur (Mihan). The proposal was pending with the government for a long time. The government issued a GR in this regard.
In return for the land given to the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), the forest department will get two-fold land in Umred. The 40.26 hectares of land in Umred will be used for afforestation. This land was necessary for the expansion of Dr Ambedkar International Airport. A GR has been issued about the land swap between IAF”s 278 hectares and 2.30 hectares of CRPF. The 20.13 hectares of forest land is adjoining these land. In the first phase of privatization of the airport, a new terminal building and a second runway are going to be built.
It is noteworthy that in 2006, the ministry of civil aviation, ministry of defence and the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) had signed a memorandum of understanding and the ministry of defence had agreed to shift the air force base near Jaitala.
