Nagpur: In a big relief to Nagpurians, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Traffic Department is all set to start demarcation of eight on-street parking spots from next week in the city. The NMC will provide the facilities free of cost and it can accommodate 1,610 two-wheelers and 379 four-wheelers, said the NMC’s Traffic Department.
Of the eight spots, a few roads need renovation. So NMC will start the on-street parking from Medical Square to Krida Square, Medical Square to Kamgar Building Square, Jagnade Square to Telephone Exchange Square, a report added.
However, the stretches like Laxmi Bhuvan Square to Ram Nagar Square, Maharajbagh Square to old VCA Stadium require either part-renovation or entire asphaltation. So, the NMC will start on-street parking on these stretches later, the report said.
According to sources in the civic body, parking will be state-of-the-art facilities. People will be able to know space availability at these locations before reaching there and can also book the same in advance. The reports stated that the main motive behind the “On Street Parking” is to regulate parking of vehicles on major roads, especially in market areas. The system will also help in easing traffic congestion.
