Nagpur: The Maharashtra Assembly elections have officially kicked off, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today announcing its first list of candidates. This list includes 99 names, with a mix of new faces and the exclusion of some sitting candidates. Several prominent leaders have been given tickets, while others have been replaced.
Nagpur, considered a stronghold for the BJP, features prominently in this list. As expected, former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has been given the ticket from South-West Nagpur. Mohan Mate will represent the party from South Nagpur, and Krishna Khopde has been chosen for East Nagpur. However, candidates for North and Central Nagpur are yet to be announced.
In the rural constituency of Kamthi, Chandrashekhar Bawankule has secured a ticket, while Samir Meghe will contest from the Hingna constituency.
On the other side of the state, Sreejaya Chavan, daughter of MP Ashok Chavan, has been given a ticket from Bhokar. In Kalyan, Sulabha Gaikwad, wife of MLA Ganpat Gaikwad, has also been selected as a candidate.
