Nagpur: “The issue of giving reservations in Education to the already affluent Maratha community of the state has been taken up promptly while the government is dragging its feet over Muslim reservation despite directions from the H.C. to consider it ” alleged Waris Pathan M.L.A. ( AIMIM) from Byculla, Mumbai while speaking to the media on the sidelines of the Assembly today.
He further said that they were demanding a 5% reservation across the board for Muslims who form approximately 18% of the country’s population.
If this matter comes up for discussion in the House, as requested for, it will receive support of all Muslim MLAs who will speak up for it, Pathan said.
He also questioned why so called ‘secular’ parties like Congress and NCP were silent on this subject.
Samajwadi party MLA Abu Azmi has also been critical of the state government not taking the issue seriously.
