Nagpur: After a hectic search for two-and-a-half days, ace diver Jagdish Khare with the assistance of five other local divers on Friday found the body of nine-year-old Dayashankar Awdhesh Prajapati, who fell into the canal in Koradi area while trying to catch a drifting kite and was swept away.
Police said that the water supply to the canal was closed for a few hours. A Poclain machine and an excavator were pressed into service to desilt the canal which is covered with slab. The search operation continued till late evening. The body was stuck in the silt behind the Koradi Devi Temple near the VIP Parking area. After the body was retrieved, it was sent to Mayo Hospital for autopsy.
A Standard III student of Vidya Mandir Koradi High School, Dayashankar (9) and his elder brother Kailash (13) were trying to catch a drifting kite on Wednesday afternoon. Suddenly, the siblings fell into the canal near Mahadula T-Point. Some bystanders succeeded in pulling out Kailash from the canal but his younger brother Dayashankar swept away in the strong current.
