Nagpur: Body of Mehboob Khan Chhote Khan (47), a truck driver by profession and resident of Kamgar Nagar in Nagpur, who was murdered in August 2023, was handed over to his relatives after DNA samples matched with his mother.
The skeletal remains of Khan, a resident of Kamgar Nagar under Kapil nagar Police Station limits, was found on August 20, 2023, dumped in a drain between Old Katol Naka Chowk and Gorewada Zoo.
On 10/08/2023, the relatives of Mehboob Khan Chhote Khan had lodged a missing complaint at Kapil Nagar Police Station. After registering a case, Kapil Nagar police started investigations. During the probe, information was received from Warud Police Station, District Amravati that the accused in the case killed his accomplice Mehboob Khan Chhote Khan by stuffing his nose and mouth with a pillow and dumped his dead body in a drain between Old Katol Naka Chowk and Gorewada Zoo.
On August 20, the Gittikhadan police summoned Khan’s family to identify some highly-decomposed parts of a body. Khan’s son and other kin identified the body with the help of his trousers and belt. A case of accidental death was registered at Gittikhadan police station. Probe found that Khan was murdered at Warud.
Though identified by his son, the forensic experts and police sent some samples for DNA analysis for confirmation, as the face and upper parts were missing. Blood samples for DNA matching were also collected from Khan’s mother and sent for chemical analysis.
On 13/02/2024, the relatives of the deceased met Nagpur Police Commissioner Dr Ravinder Singal and said that the remains of the deceased have not been handed over to them. The Police took immediate notice of this and directed immediate action.
On 15/02/2024, the DNA test report and remains of the deceased were received from the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, Nagpur. Subsequently, the remains of the deceased were handed over to his wife Gulshan Jaha Mehboob Khan.
Khan had informed his family about loading a consignment from Warud in Amravati on August 7 last year and promised to return within a few hours. After the last call, shortly past August 7 midnight, his cell phone was switched off.
