Like many immigrants, Janardhana frequently faced stereotypes and presumptions. “People automatically pegged me as a technical resource but were surprised when I voiced strategic interests or leadership goals,” he shares. Though frustrated, Janardhana remained determined to break out of the box others tried to put him in.
After college, Janardhana started his career as a software engineer, drawn to building technology. But over time, he craved more creative, strategic work. He wanted to dig into understanding customer needs, craft solutions, and drive overall product strategy. Taking on product management tasks at work resonated deeply. Janardhana had found
his calling: owning products end-to-end and solving real customer problems.
Janardhana’s passion for product management truly ignited during a new product development class in his MBA program. Working hands-on to take a raw idea and turn it into a real prototype gave him his first taste of guiding a product from initial vision to launch. The thrill of shepherding a product’s full lifecycle hooked Janardhana instantly. He knew then that product management would be his future.
A major turning point came when Janardhana led his first fledgling product development project at work. Drawing on both his technical expertise and innovative strategic outlook, he embraced the challenge with enthusiasm. The successful product launch validated Janardhana’s natural talent for product leadership. He reflects, “That was the
moment I knew I could thrive as a PM, specifically because of my diverse backgroundand perspective, not in spite of it.
