Srinagar: A Border Security Force (BSF) soldier, identified as Sitaram Upadhyay, was killed during a ceasefire violation by Pakistan Rangers along the Line of Control (LoC) in RS Pura Sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. A security personnel who was injured in the cross-border firing has been admitted to a hospital. Two civilians have also suffered injuries in the unprovoked firing initiated by Pakistan during wee hours.
The ceasefire violation comes two days after India asked the security forces not to launch operations during Ramzan while accepting the Mehbooba Mufti government’s proposal. Last week, the J&K CM had requested that security force operations be halted during Amarnath Yatra and Ramzan.
Meanwhile, the wife of martyred BSF Constable strongly opposed India’s move to not launch operations in Jammu and Kashmir during the holy month of Ramzan. “India asked security forces not to launch operations during Ramzan but my husband was killed in firing by Pak. What’ll happen by offering compensation? It’ll not bring back my husband,” she said.
