Delhi/ Nagpur: Whatever hue and cry Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo may make against the Central Government alleging that she was being harassed, misused and defamed to score political mileage against her, the stern CBI Director Anil Sinha claimed that ‘Madam’ would be required to face CBI probe for her alleged involvement in NRH (National Rural Health Mission) scam, said the media reports.
Usually distancing from media, Anil Sinha in Mayawati’s case did not disclose any details to the media, but said that whatever was the requirement of interrogating Mayawati in the alleged scam and after filing 48 charge-sheets in the National Rural Health Mission scam would be fulfilled. To report in his own words, “The agency will proceed as per the demand of the investigation,” Sinha said.
According to sources, CBI had called Mayawati yesterday for interrogation on two specific issues related to NRHM scam – bifurcation of Health and Family Welfare Department and appointment of District Project Officers considered key to the scam. The Supreme Court on Tuesday sent a notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), BSP chief Mayawati and the Centre on a review petition, asking the court to further probe the disproportionate assets against the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister. Nearly a month after the Supreme Court dismissed the case against Mayawati that charged the former chief minister with massive corruption and owning assets that cannot be explained against her sources of income, a petition seeking the review of the judgement was filed.
According to media reports, reacting to the development, Mayawati today questioned the timing of the CBI investigation against her, saying the move against her was an attempt to ‘demoralize’ her party and divert attention from the ‘failure’ of the government to fulfill its promises made to the people.
‘I have no connection to the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam. BJP, which is trying to use CBI, should give up such tactics as such attempts have cost them dearly earlier,” she told the reporters. She also said that the decision of the agency could be the handiwork of some “casteist officers” who look down upon Dalits and backwards. “It is possible that the high command of the BJP is not aware of the move of these officers…it has to be probed,” she said. “I warn BJP to give up such deeds. Congress had also tried such tricks to divert attention from its failures of governance,” she added.
