Campaign to “RID OF DRUGS” Launched on International Drugs Day 2024 by Mitrangan De-Addiction Center

Nagpur: A major campaign aimed at eliminating drug abuse was launched today by the Mitrangan De-addiction cum Rehabilitation Center at Nagpur Railway Station and Bus Stands. The initiative, marking International Drugs Day 2024, featured prominent community leaders and officials, including Nagpur Station Superintendent of Police, Dr. Akshay Shende.

Mr. Kartik Iyer, the project director of the Mitrangan De-addiction cum Rehabilitation Center, emphasized the crucial role of parents in preventing their children from consuming harmful substances like cannabis, opium, alcohol, and gutka. He shared valuable insights on preventing drug abuse and combating the drug trade, highlighting that quitting addiction is just the first step. According to Mr. Iyer, achieving inner peace and a transformed personality are essential for long-term recovery, as simply stopping an addiction is not enough.

Echoing these sentiments, Mr. Prashant Raut, the secretary of the Mitrangan De-addiction cum Rehabilitation Center, stressed the importance of prioritizing peace of mind and personal transformation in overcoming addiction.

The campaign also addressed the provision of free legal aid to children involved in drug abuse. Attendees were encouraged to report such cases to the District Legal Services Authority of Nagpur through Para Legal Volunteers (PLV) to ensure children received the necessary security and protection.

The event saw significant participation from passengers and community members, including key counselors from the Mitrangan De-addiction Center such as Mr. Vinod Kumar, Mr. Saurabh Sharma, and Mr. Srinivasan Iyengar, along with other members of the Mitrangan community. Their presence reinforced the community’s commitment to tackling the issue of drug abuse.

The “RID OF DRUGS” campaign represents a significant step towards a drug-free nation, focusing on awareness, prevention, and support for those affected by addiction.
