Nagpur: The spurt in house-breakings has raised questions over efficiency of Nagpur Police as not a day passes without a theft in one locality or another.
In the latest incident, burglars decamped with Rs 5.50 lakh cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 1.71 lakh from a house in Hudkeshwar police jurisdiction. The owner of the house, Suryakant Rambhau Masurkar (64), resident of Plot No. 33, Lavkush Nagar, Manewada Ring Road, locked his house and went to Wardha along with family to attend a wedding on Saturday. In the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, miscreants grabbed the opportunity of a locked house and entered Masurkar’s residence from the open door of the terrace. The burglars laid their hands on Rs 5.50 lakh cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 1.71 lakh kept in steel almirah in the bedroom. When Masurkar noticed the theft after returning to Nagpur, he registered a case with Hudkeshwar police in this regard.
PSI Doifode has booked the unidentified burglars under Sections 454, 457, 380 of the IPC. Copshave launched a search for the thieves.
