The Shinde-Fadnavis Govt also directed that the recruitment of 75,000 police personnel be carried out in the state in a transparent manner
Nagpur: The State Cabinet on Wednesday increased the casual leave of all police personnel, from constables to inspectors, from 12 to 20. An official statement said the number of casual leave for state government employees was earlier increased from eight to 12, according to media reports.
However, looking at the increasing workload of police personnel, such as bandobast during festivals and VVIP duty, the Eknath Shinde Government has decided to grant a total of 20 days casual leave for police officials ranking from police constables to police inspectors, the reports said.
The reports further said the plan of increasing casual leave was mooted by Sanjay Pandey when he was the DGP. It was also recommended by the Fifth Pay Commission to reduce stress on the police.
In a related development, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed that the recruitment of 75,000 police personnel be carried out in the state in a transparent manner. The process of filling 7,231 vacancies has already begun and an advertisement for the purpose has already been issued. A physical test will be conducted before the written one. The Chief Minister has directed that the process be carried out at 20 grounds, which should be equipped with cameras, the reports added.
The Maharashtra government has also issued an order detailing the procedure for the withdrawal of cases filed for defying official orders during the coronavirus pandemic. Except for the matters where government officials or frontline workers were assaulted or damage to property exceeded Rs 50,000, all cases registered under IPC Section 188 (defying lawfully promulgated order of public servant) can be withdrawn, said a Government Resolution (GR).
The decision was taken as those facing such cases, typically filed for allegedly violating various pandemic-related norms, were facing hardship, it said. Such offences under Section 188 of the IPC should be either alone or filed along with the Pandemic Act, Disaster Management Act or certain sections of Maharashtra Police Act, the GR said. There will be committees in every district and police commissionerate to examine the cases and recommend withdrawal. The cases should have been registered between March 21,2020, to March 31,2022, reports stated.
