City cops, FDA jointly seize stock of banned scented tobacco worth Rs 11.59 lakh

Nagpur: City police and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in a joint raid on Tuesday seized a huge stock of banned scented tobacco worth Rs 11.52 lakh.

The late night raid was carried out at a vacant land near Sainath Fabrication and Engineering Works situated on Waddhamna-Vanadongri Road. The swoop was led by Crime Branch PI Chandrashekhar Dhole and FDA Food Safety Officer Kiran Meshram.

The police and FSA squads jointly inspected different vehicles parked at the spot and found 2195 kg of banned scented tobacco (Bhagya and Janam brands) stocked in them, The stuff worth Rs 11.59 lakh was seized. The vehicles have also been seized. However, no arrests were made so far.

The raid was carried out under the guidance of FDA Assistant Commissioner (Food) M C Pawar. The FDA has appealed citizens to contact 0712-2562204 if they notice sale/purchase of banned gutkha, kharra, panmasala, scented tobacco/betelnut etc, said a press release issued by Assistant Commissioner (Food) Shivaji Desai, Food and Drug Administration (Maharashtra State).
