The surgery was done at Sanjeevani Hospital, Laxmi Nagar owned by renowned Orthopaedic surgeon and past District Governor of Rotary International district-3030, Dr K S Rajan. Dr. Ratnakar Kale, senior anaesthetist and Mr Jitu Bade, OT technician were part of the team.
What is SPAIRE HIP REPLACEMENT?
Earlier, massive skin incisions and muscle cuts had to be borne by the patients undergoing surgery. This made the post-operative recovery quite slow.
A new SPAIRE approach for the hip replacement has been developed by the world-renowned Exeter hospital surgeons in the UK in 2018. This approach helps, in preserving 4 tendons of the hip from being cut- namely the Piriformis, the Obturator Internus, Superior Gemellus and the Inferior Gemellus.
This not only helps in preventing complications like dislocation, instability etc, it also helps in faster and better recovery. Patients can do extreme bending movements, which were not allowed, in the conventional hip replacement. This approach has a potential to drastically reduce the complications, and improve the quality of life of patients, undergoing the treatment.
