Nagpur: The civic work in Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has recently taken a hit. Despite the city’s roads marred by crater-sized potholes at several areas, the Hotmix Department of the civic body is struggling to address these complaints, citing the engagement of its staff members in the ongoing Maratha survey, which is being conducted from January 23 to 31..

The widespread presence of potholes in various areas of Nagpur reflects the adverse effects of diverting resources towards the Maratha survey. The Hotmix Department, responsible for road maintenance, is currently unable to attend to the pressing issue of deteriorating roads, leaving citizens inconvenienced and concerned about their safety.

To conduct the Maratha survey, more than 2,000 class-III NMC employees and approximately 300 sanitary workers have been deployed. This massive reallocation of personnel has resulted in a cascading effect, affecting multiple civic services across the city. Officials from key departments such as Public Works, Health, and Education have also been diverted for survey duties, further intensifying the strain on municipal work.

Officials from the Public Works Department, Health and Education Departments have been deployed for the survey which is affecting municipal work across the city. Almost all teaching and non-teaching staff, Sanitary Inspectors, Tax Assessors, Junior Engineers of NMC have been engaged in the survey as per the State Backward Classes Commission instructions, said a media report.

The report said that the survey needs qualified enumerators and those with skills to fill forms on mobile phones or apps.
