Nagpur: Responding to Governor Ramesh Bais’s suggestion, the School Education Department has instructed schools to commence pre-primary classes after 9 am. Governor Bais, during a program on December 5, 2023, proposed that the Education Department consider adjusting school timings in light of evolving lifestyles. Subsequently, the State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) initiated a public feedback process, revealing concerns about disrupted sleep patterns among students due to modern lifestyles, entertainment options, vehicular noise, and late-night activities.

After evaluating these inputs, the government issued a circular on Thursday, directing schools to begin pre-primary classes for Std I to IV from 9 am onwards. The circular also urged schools encountering difficulties with schedule changes to liaise with the respective District Education Officers for resolution. It emphasized adherence to teaching hours mandated by the Right to Education Act 2009, acknowledging the diminishing enthusiasm among students due to lifestyle changes.

Moreover, the Department highlighted seasonal challenges such as colds and coughs during winter and monsoon seasons, affecting both students and parents. Transportation issues, including fog and heavy rain, were cited as additional concerns for early morning commutes. Schools were urged to coordinate class timings to avoid clashes with government office hours, thereby mitigating potential traffic disruptions.
