Nagpur: The Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had a word of praise and appreciation for Deputy Commissioner of Police (Nagpur Headquarters) Suhas Bawche for his painstaking investigation as SDPO of Gadchiroli District that ultimately resulted in conviction of Delhi University Professor G.N. Saibaba and four others for their Maoist links. Fadnavis on Thursday felicitated the DCP Bawche at Nagpur Airport in the presence of Commissioner of Police Dr K Venkatesham and other police officials.
Bawche was Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) at Aheri in Gadchiroli District and investigated the case against Naxal sympathisers G N Saibaba and four others namely Mishra, Rahi, Mahesh Tirki, and Pandu Narote with aplomb. The outstanding probe by Bawche led to the conviction of the five by a Sessions Court in Gadchiroli which sentenced them to life imprisonment. The sixth accused in the case, Vijay Tirki, was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for ten years.
Bawche had effected Saibaba’s arrest in a dramatic fashion in Delhi. The then SDPO Bawche intercepted the DU Professor’s car and pounced on him. Even before other Naxal sympathisers in the national capital could sense of Saibaba’s arrest, Bawche initiated steps to create Green Corridor to reach Delhi Airport and brought the Professor to Gadchiroli.
It may be recalled that the DCP Bawche was awarded “Antarik Suraksha Seva Padak” for his outstanding work in Naxal-affected areas of Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Bhandara and Gondia districts.
Similarly, the Chief Minister Fadnavis, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, appreciated the good work being done by DCP Deepali Masirkar and DCP (Traffic) Smartna Patil.
