Cochlear Implant surgeries resume under the aegis of Tata Trust at Orange City Hospital

Nagpur: Every year around 97,000 babies are born in India with severe to profound hearing loss. Out of which, babies who need cochlear implant surgery is a staggering 3,00,000 in number. In Vidarbha itself there are approximately 5000 babies who qualify for this life changing surgery.

To address the concern Founder – Orange City Hospital, Shri. Udayabhaskar Nair initiated “Project Gita” by the name of his only sister who suffered from hearing disability in association with Tata Trust back in 2016. 127 Cochhlear implant surgeries have been successfully performed with the financial support granted by Tata Trust under the leadership of Dr. Nandu Kolwadkar, senior ENT surgeon. Tata Trust extended its helping hand in Central India for the first time then and has recently renewed the partnership with Orange City Hospital.

Orange City Hospital has joined hands with the National Human Care Foundation to manage the cost of cochlear implant surgery followed by sessions of mapping and speech therapy. National Human Care Foundation is an organization with a sense of social responsibility and provides financial assistance to poor and needy people for medical expenses through various corporate entities as part of CSR activity.

Renowned Cochlear Implant surgeons of the region Dr. Prashant Naik, Dr. Gauri Kapre Vaidya, Dr. Harsh Gupta, Dr. Kshitij Patil have teamed up with Orange City Hospital for this noble cause. All audiologists from various districts of Vidharbha such as Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli are contributing for this project.

Dr. Vidya Nair, Chairperson of Orange City Hospital said,” Our family is well aware of the problems that deafness can cause and empathize with the patient and family. Representing the next generation, I want to continue working for the cause and reach out to the needy.”
