Committee formed to keep watch on paid news during NMC poll

The State Election Commission has formed a high-powered committee to keep a close watch on publication of paid news during elections of Nagpur Municipal Corporation and also redress complaints. The Committee will be headed by Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar and will have seven members. The members include Ravindra Deotale, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, a representative of Commissioner of Police, District Information Officer, a nominated representative of Press Council of India, Election Officer of concerned Prabhag. Ashok Kolhatkar, NMC PRO, will be Member-Secretary of the Committee.

The committee will keep a watch on paid news, paid social comments on social media, Internet etc. The committee will have powers to scan any publicity material of election before publication in electronic media.
