Nagpur: Rampant and uncoordinated development projects in Nagpur are creating unsafe conditions for citizens, particularly around Jagnade Square Flyover near KDK College. Incomplete road work at the site has turned a critical stretch of the road into a hazardous zone, leaving two-wheeler riders vulnerable. With the road width drastically reduced, navigating this area has become a nightmare, especially when heavy vehicles pass through the narrow cement road, further squeezing already limited space.
What compounds the issue is the blatant violation of basic traffic rules, most notably the “Keep Left” regulation. Many two-wheeler riders, in an effort to bypass the bottleneck, resort to driving on the wrong side of the road, putting themselves and others at heightened risk. This reckless behaviour, though a response to the road’s poor condition, only increases the chances of accidents.
Jagnade Square, one of the busiest areas in Nagpur, has become a symbol of the chaos caused by unplanned development. The ongoing construction has left the motorable portion of the road in disrepair, with commuters left to fend for themselves amidst the mix of heavy vehicles, two-wheelers, and pedestrians. The lack of foresight and planning by the authorities has put the lives of daily commuters in danger, turning a once-functional thoroughfare into a no man’s land.
As the city’s development surges ahead, it is crucial for planners and officials to address these concerns with urgency, ensuring that the safety of citizens is prioritized alongside infrastructure growth. For now, however, the residents of Nagpur are left to navigate these dangerous conditions with little recourse.
