Nagpur: The election campaign for the Ramtek constituency has taken an unexpected turn as Rashmi Barve, the official candidate of the Maha Vikas Aghadi representing the Congress party, grapples with a significant setback. Despite vigorously campaigning across the constituency, Barve finds herself embroiled in a crisis after her Caste Validity Certificate was found invalid by the Caste Validity Verification Committee.

In view of this development, the Congress had already prepared a ‘Plan B’ for the Ramtek Constituency. Congress has decided to field Darshani Swanand Dhawad from Ramtek in the Lok Sabha election arena. Barve had decided to fight a legal battle against the objections to the caste validity certificate. But now after the decision taken by the Caste Verification Committee, everyone’s attention was focused on whether Barve will contest the Lok Sabha elections or not.

Ramtek is a Lok Sabha constituency reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates. But the cancellation of Rashmi Barve’s caste validity certificate put her candidature in jeopardy. The deadline for filing nominations for the first phase ended on March 27. But Darshani Swanand Dhwad had already filed his candidature as a substitute candidate from the Congress party. So now Darshani Swanand Dhawad will enter the arena of Ramtek Lok Sabha elections and not Rashmi Barve.

The cancellation of Barve’s Caste Validity Certificate, a crucial document for candidates seeking election, comes as a major blow to both the Congress party and the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition. With the election season in full swing, the timing of this decision poses a formidable challenge for Barve and her supporters.

The sudden cancellation of the certificate has thrown the Congress party and the Maha Vikas Aghadi into disarray, prompting questions about the next course of action for Barve and her political allies. Despite Barve’s intention to fight a legal battle to uphold the validity of her caste certificate, the decision by the Caste Verification Committee has added a layer of complexity to an already contentious situation.

The issue surrounding Barve’s caste validity certificate surfaced soon after her candidature was announced, triggering concerns about the legal process involved in obtaining the certificate. A complaint filed by Sunil Salve prompted the State Department of Social Justice to order the Caste Verification Committee to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.

In response to the notice issued by the Caste Verification Committee, Barve opted to challenge the decision in the High Court, alleging that the allegations against her were politically motivated. However, the Committee’s verdict declaring her caste validity certificate invalid has left Barve and her supporters grappling with a sense of embarrassment and uncertainty.
