The fraudster allegedly cheated many by posing as BJP leader
Nagpur: The alleged Bharatiya Janata Party Nomadic Tribes Cell President Rohit Madewar was arrested by the Bajaj Nagar police. He is accused of cheating the owner of an advertising agency in Nagpur to the tune of Rs 46 lakh by luring him to get a loan of Rs 4.5 crore. However, the city BJP top brass has denied the accused having links with the party.
The Bajajnagar police had registered a case against the accused Madewar in February. Since then, he was dodging the police and eluding arrest. Finally the police nabbed him. The accused, a resident of. Meghdoot Society, Hudkeshwar, had started ‘Roti Foundation’ for the poor and hungry and through that he was doing social service. According to the police, the complainant Dinesh Marshettiwar, a resident of Rameshwari, has an advertising agency. They needed a flat for office as well as living. For this they needed a home loan.
In July 2020, a ‘CA’ named Sriram Tendulkar introduced him to Madewar. At this time, Madewar claimed to be the recovery agent of a National Bank. The accused con man lured Marshettiwar with a home loan. Rs. 14 lakhs were taken from Marshettiwar for stamp duty and other expenses. Then he gave him a photocopy of a DD saying the home loan worth Rs 4.5 crore has been sanctioned.
The accused told Marshettiwar that he will have to submit the registry of properties in the bank and only after that the original DD will be released. The accused also took him to two lawyers and got the fact confirmed. Marshettiwar trusted Madewar and did a registry of three properties. For this he had to pay a stamp duty of Rs 32 lakh. However, when he reached bank with the registries, he came to know that he had been duped.
It is learnt that Marshettiwar was not the only victim of accused Madewar’s fraud. He has reportedly cheated many posing as BJP office-bearer.
Bajajnagar police had registered a case of fraud in this connection. Madewar was arrested by the police seven months later.
