Nagpur: In a blistering response to the escalating road fatalities and traffic disruptions linked to poorly executed construction projects, Dr Ravinder Singal, Commissioner of Police, has summoned road and infrastructure contractors to Police Bhavan on Tuesday.
Media reports reveal that Dr Singal has issued a directive to all Police Station in-charges, instructing them to compile a comprehensive dossier on contractors responsible for roads, bridges, flyovers, and metro projects within their jurisdictions. The Top Cop’s order underlined the urgent need to address the mounting number of road accidents and fatalities linked to shoddy and incomplete construction practices. The gravity of the situation resulted in the CP himself demanding immediate accountability.
Police Inspectors are tasked with assembling these contractors for the meeting at 4 pm, where they will face intense scrutiny over their botched projects. Dr Singal is expected to grill them on the glaring inadequacies of the road works, which have left many streets perilously incomplete and fraught with hazards.
In preparation for the high stakes meeting, Police Inspectors are to prepare a detailed list of the status of ongoing construction projects, the extent of incomplete work, contractor information, and accident statistics within their jurisdictions. All relevant Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), and Additional Commissioners of Police (Addl CPs) have been instructed to attend.
Contractors fail to adhere to rules: CP Dr Singal
CP Dr Singal stated that the persistent issues of poorly patched roads and incomplete roadwork have emerged as major problems for citizens which causes not only traffic disruptions but also road accidents. The contractors are not adhering to the rules specified in the contract, including the maintenance of temporary roads, deployment of traffic wardens, and timely completion of work.
