Nagpur: Sitabuldi Police arrested three persons, including the brother of a policeman, for their involvement in an extortion attempt at a food stall.
The arrested accused have been identified as Somnath Raju Jadhav (27), residing in Seva Sadan Nagar, Manewada; Chetan Pramod Gokhale (23), residing in Sawarbandhe Layout, Hudkeshwar; and Ajay Dina Jhole (25), residing in Barasignal, Imambada. Somnath’s brother is in the police force, while both Somnath and Chetan are known as habitual criminals.
Somnath’s criminal history includes a previous attempt to open fire on Ajni Police personnel. The incident occurred on May 8, when Somnath and his associates arrived at a food stall operated by Mohammad Shakib Mohammad Shabbir (50), a resident of Mohan Nagar, located in front of the railway station.
The accused demanded ransom from Shakib but he refused to comply. Somnath and his accomplices assaulted Shakib and caused damage to his property. Sitabuldi Police arrested the accused.
Acting under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone II Rahul Madne, the arrest was made by Sr PI Asaram Chormale, API Santosh Kadam, PSI Tiwari, Ganesh, Sushant and Atmaram and others.
