Cops seize banned flavoured tobacco worth Rs 3.62 lakh

In a recent development, Kamptee Police have successfully apprehended three individuals and confiscated packets of banned flavored tobacco with an estimated value of Rs 3.62 lakh. Additionally, in connection with this illegal activity, law enforcement authorities have detained a private bus valued at Rs 18 lakh.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Ajay Kumar Yadav (29), a resident of Katheri, Mangarwa, MP, Pankajshree Sunildatta Tiwari (22), hailing from Shahpur, tehsil Naigarhi, Mauganj, MP, and Rajesh Shriram Vishwakarma (45), residing in Bhaadwa, district Rewa, MP.

The police, acting on a credible tip-off, intercepted a private bus with registration number MP-17/P-1147 around 1:35 pm. Upon inspection, law enforcement officers discovered a plastic bag containing packets of banned flavored tobacco in the possession of the accused trio, who were traveling on the bus. Subsequently, the police took them into custody and also impounded the bus, valued at Rs 18 lakh.

A case has been registered against the accused individuals under Sections 188, 272, 273, and 328 of the Indian Penal Code, in conjunction with Sections 26(2)(iv), 27 (2)(e), and 30 (2)(a) of the Food Safety and Standards Act. The legal proceedings are currently underway as further investigations continue to unfold.
