Crime Branch of Nagpur Police on Saturday smashed an illegal betting ring and arrested seven members of a gang involved in taking bets on India-England One-Day International Matches being played in England.
The Crime Branch sleuths, after receiving a tip-off that one Hrudayraj Alexander was taking bets at a vacant house in Jaripatka, raided the place situated on Plot No. 26. The raiding cops found Hrudayraj Alexander (29), resident of Gajaraj Complex, Panjra Road, Nagpur, Manish Anil Daulatani (21), resident of Byramji Town, Nagpur, Satish Rajkumar Dewani (29), resident of Jaripatka, Nagpur, Bhagwan Katumal Dhanrajani (46), resident of Jaripatka near Dayanand Park, Ram Jayantilal Vasvani (28), resident of Raghuvanshi Nagar, Kalamna, Shankar Deepchand Kukreja (39), resident of Sindhi Colony, Jaripatka and Sachin Keshav Taiwade (26), resident of Bezonbagh, Nagpur taking bets on One-Day Match being played on Saturday. The cops recovered a laptop, cashbox, 30 cell phones, a printer, sound system, TV, betting cash, and other material collectively worth Rs 2,00,000 from the possession of accused. An offence under relevant sections of Prevention of Gambling Act was registered with Jaripatka Police Station and all the accused were subsequently arrested.
The action was taken by Senior Police Inspector Avinash Shilimkar, Police Inspector Chandrashekhar Dhole, PSI Mangesh Desai, Constables Pramod Kohale, Tarasingh Jadhav, Shailendra Thavre and other cops under the guidance of DCP Sunil Kolhe and ACP Nilesh Raut.
