Nagpur: Special Judge R P Pande on Tuesday sentenced Amit Gautamrao Jogi, his wife Swati, Meenakshi Sachin Saraf and Simran Rajesh Gupta to 10 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) for dragging a minor girl into prostitution.
Amit Jogi (41), his wife Swati (32), both residents of Flat No 301, Kabirbela Apartment, Friends Colony, Nagpur, were running a brothel in their house. In connivance with Meenakshi Saraf (28), a resident of Wani, district Yavatmal and Simran Gupta (22), a resident of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, they dragged a minor girl into flesh trade.
Acting on a tip off, a team of Social Security Branch (SSB) of the City Police sent a decoy customer to the flat of the Jogi couple on February 3, 2022. After confirmation that they along with two other women were running the brothel, a team of SSB raided the house and rescued the victim.
The team arrested Amit and Swati Jogi, Meenakshi and Simran and registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act against them at Gittikhadan Police Station.
PI Suhas Choudhary and PI Vinayak Koli investigated the case and filed a chargesheet against the accused quartet in the court. As the charges were substantiated against the accused, the court awarded 10 years RI to them. Additional Public Prosecutor Asawari Palsodkar represented the State.
