Nagpur : In an incident near the Jain temple in Lakshminagar, Bajaj Nagar police jurisdiction, a couple was robbed by a person impersonating a transgender. The perpetrator entered their home under false pretenses, claiming to be looking for a newborn or wedding in the neighborhood.
After gaining entry, the impersonator asked for water, then demanded Rs. 21,000 in exchange for donating clothes and grains to 21 needy children. The couple, Sudhir (66) and Sangeeta Wankhede (55), handed over cash amounting to Rs. 11,500 along with gold jewelry worth approximately Rs. 52,000. After collecting the items, the impersonator disappeared.
Feeling deceived, Sudhir realized he had fallen victim to a fraudulent scheme and promptly reported the incident to Bajaj Nagar police station. Authorities have registered a case based on Sangeeta Wankhede’s complaint and are now investigating the prevalence of such impersonation cases in the city.
