The Commissioner of Police Dr Ravinder Singal felicitated Senior Inspector Baburao Raut and four Beat Marshals Devendra Sharma, Praful Lande, Atul Fartade and Manoj Choudhuri, attached to Pachpaoli Police Station for saving the life of the man who attempted suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence Monday night.

Around 8.30 pm on Monday, the police control room received information from a woman on helpline number 112 that her husband thrashed her and their son and threw them out of the house. She also informed the police on the helpline number that her husband, who was in an inebriated condition, latched the door from inside and may take the extreme step.

Soon after the information was passed to the Pachpaoli Police by the police control room officer on wireless, the four beat marshals and Senior Inspector Raut himself rushed to the spot in Lane No 6 at Lashkaribagh. They found the woman and her son standing outside the house along with 10-15 persons. They broke open the door and saw the man hanging from the ceiling fan with a dupatta.

One of the beat marshals held his legs up and removed the wooden stool. Another beat marshal untied the knot of the dupatta used by him for hanging. Prompt action by the cops saved him from taking the drastic step under the influence of alcohol.

When the policemen asked him as to why he thrashed his wife and why he was ending his life, he told them that she did not serve him hot meals. He assured the police that he would never trouble her. Following the assurance given by him, his wife decided not to lodge a complaint against her husband.
