Nagpur: In clear defiance of Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Singal’s advisory to curb excessive noise during Ganpati Visarjan, several Ganesh Mandals in Nagpur opted for loud music and DJs, leading to significant noise pollution in Nagpur. Dr. Singal’s directive was intended to promote a peaceful farewell to Lord Ganesh, adhering to the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000.
The rules mandate that noise levels should not exceed 55 decibels during the day and 45 decibels at night in residential areas, with higher limits set for commercial and industrial zones. Despite this, many processions blatantly exceeded the limits, disturbing residents and violating the guidelines.
To monitor compliance, special police teams equipped with sound level meters were stationed across the city. However, the celebrations saw many mandals choosing to prioritize a festive atmosphere over the legal regulations, raising concerns over the enforcement of noise control measures.
Local residents expressed frustration at the lack of adherence to the noise restrictions, calling for stricter action in future events.
