Nagpur: In a crackdown on transgenders extorting money forcibly from citizens at major squares in Nagpur, the Social Security Branch (SSB) of the City Police on Wednesday, arrested three kinnars and booked seven others in Sitabuldi and Gittikhadan police areas.
The arrested transgenders have been identified as AkanshaTukaram Bansod (19), Muskaan Sunil Shaikh (26) and Shweta Shyamrao Pakhale (31), all residents of Ambe Nagar, Bhandewadi, near Railway Station, Pardi. Two others — Vaishali Patil (24) and Ammu Bhagat (26) — are at large.
Police Inspector Shubhangi Wankhede received a video on Instagram in which it was seen that the five transgenders were extorting money from people near a traffic signal at Alankar Talkies Square. After confirming the video posted on Instagram, a team of SSB launched a search for the five kinnars.
The team succeeded in nabbing three of them at Bhandewadi near Railway Station. The team handed them over to Sitabuldi Police who registered a case under Sections 384 (Extortion), 413 (Being members of unlawful assembly) and 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code against the eunuchs.
The action was initiated by PI ShubhangiWankhede, API Santosh Jadhav and constabulary staff under the supervision of DCP (Detection) Mummaka Sudarshan.
In another incident, Gittikhadan Police booked five more transgenders , who entered a wedding ceremony and extorted money after allegedly harassing the invitees on Wednesday.
Identified as Sonu Gaure, Chhoti Gajbhiye, Janvhi Stephen Peter, Dimple John Gajbhiye and Pari Gajbhiye, the accused are the residents of Zingabai Takli. Around 4 pm on Wednesday, Shashank Gattewar (24), a resident of Pipla Road, Besa, had gone to his friend’s house at Narmada Colony for a wedding ceremony. The accused came to the house and demanded money. Gattewar gave them Rs 1,000 and asked them to leave the place. However, the accused tried to extort Rs 11,000 and created scenes. Following Gattewar’s complaint, police registered a case under Sections 384, 143 and 188 of the Indian Penal Code against the accused transgenders.
