Credit card fraud: Man loses Rs 4 lakh to cyber crooks in Nagpur

Nagpur: One more middle-aged man has fallen prey to cyber crooks and lost Rs 4 lakh after he clicked a link sent by them on his cell phone to deactivate his DBS Bank’s credit card.

The victim, Sushobhan Amiya Sanyal (42), a resident of Plot No. 302, Ravi-Uday Residency, Welcome Society, Dabha, received a phone call from number 7694911348 on October 14 last asking him to deposit fees of Rs 1,899 for his DBS Bank’s credit card. He then received phone calls from cell phone numbers 8948714993 and 7381623309. Posing as DBS Bank officers, the callers told him that he would be charged Rs 1,899 per month for not depositing the fees. After Sanyal told them that he wanted to deactivate his credit card, they sent him a link on his cell phone and tricked him into revealing his credit card details.

After gaining his confidence, the online fraudsters procured the one-time password from him and siphoned off Rs 4 lakh from his account. Following the victim’s complaint, Gittikhadan Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act. Further investigations are underway.
