Nagpur: In a record of sorts, the Crime Branch of Nagpur Police has arrested 145 accused involved in 94 different crimes in the month of June, 2017. The cops have also seized valuables, weapons, other material collectively worth Rs 70.61 lakh in the same period. However, not a single chain-snatcher has been arrested nor the stolen valuables recovered.
The arrested 145 accused include two in murder cases, 28 in seven dacoity attempts, 9 in six house-breakings, 3 in three thefts, 10 in thirty vehicle thefts, 42 in raids on eight gambling dens, 9 in three cricket betting cases, 10 in five liquor transporting cases, 14 in thirteen cases of possessing lethal weapons, 3 in three cases of possessing guns, and 15 accused arrested in other 15 crimes.
Similarly, the NDPS squad arrested nine accused on the charges of possessing ganja worth Rs 1.35 lakh.

Vehicle thefts:
In all, 710 offences of vehicle thefts were registered in the period from January 1, 2017 to May end. 166 cases of vehicle lifting were solved. The 710 cases of vehicle thefts include theft of 670 motorcycles and other two-wheelers. Of them, 156 cases were solved. Similarly, 40 cases of four-wheeler thefts were registered out of which 10 cases were solved.
Interestingly, 396 cases of vehicle lifting were reported between 12 noon and 6 pm. 146 cases were reported between 6 am and 12 noon. 116 vehicles were stolen between 6 pm and 12 in the night. The least vehicles – 52 – were lifted between 12 midnight and 6 am.
The theft of different two-wheelers include 279 Hero Honda Splendours, 160 Honda Activas, 4 Bullets, 17 Scooties, 9 Yamahs, 11 scooters, 40 Bajaj two-wheelers and 150 other two-wheelers.
Most of the vehicles were stolen from Hingna Bazaar, Waghdhara, Gumgaon, Dattawadi in Zone 1, Sadar Residency Road, Court premises, Railway Station area in Zone 2, Mahal Bazaar, Shiv Nagar, Old Mangalwari, Zenda Chowk in Zone 3, Besa Road, Lavkush Nagar, Old Subhedar Layout, Dighori Square, Mhalginagar in Zone 4 and Maruti Showroom Square, Rani Durgavati Square, Tipu Sultan Square in Zone 5.
