Nagpur: In a significant action, Unit 2 of the Nagpur Crime Branch busted an IPL betting racket being operated from Karitk Nagar under Mankapur Police Station here, on Friday night. Besides seizing material worth Rs 5.71 lakh, cops have arrested four bookies in connection with the case.
The accused have been identified as Farhan Ali Likayat Ali (28), a resident of Gandhibagh; Shoeb Ali Shakib Ali Sayyed (38), a resident of Jafar Nagar; Imran Ali Zahir Ali (42), a resident of Satranjipura; and Irshad Rafiq Qureshi (36), a resident of Dighori.
According to police sources, cops received secret input regarding some antisocial elements accepting bets on the IPL match between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans from the Mankapur area. After verifying the inputs, Crime Branch Unit 2, led by PI Shubhangi Deshmukh, API Gajanan Chambhare, Police Constables Rajesh Tiwari, Mahendra Sadmake, Shailesh Jambhulkar, Deepak Chole, Police Naik Arjun Yadav, Dinesh Daware, Sandeep Changole, Kamlesh Ganer, and Police Amaldar Vivesk Shirpad, raided the premises and found four persons indulging in gambling activities.
