Crime Branch joins Rs 32 lakh Sonegaon robbery probe

Nagpur: The Crime Branch sleuths have joined Nagpur police to investigate the Rs 32 lakh robbery case and stabbing of an 82-year-old senior citizen.

In the early hours of Tuesday, three unknown armed robbers attacked one Suresh Potdukhe (82), a resident of Indraprastha Housing Colony under the jurisdiction of Sonegaon police station. After stabbing Potdukhe five times, the miscreants had absconded with valuables worth Rs 32 lakh, including Rs 25 lakh cash, 15 tola gold and 2 kg silver.

Police are also trying to find out if the vehicles used by the criminals were stolen. Preliminary scans of the CCTV network in the vicinity revealed that the robbers knew the routes of the area well as they managed to evade the cameras, reports said.

According to police, it appears to be a well-planned armed robbery. Four separate teams have been fanned out to identify and nab the robbers. One of the suspects was identified on the basis of the footage of the CCTV cameras. The police expressed confidence that the culprits would be put behind bars shortly.
