Nagpur: In a cracking success, Crime Branch of Nagpur Police arrested a notorious criminal involved in dacoity in a jeweller’s house and his murder in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh as well as robberies in various parts of Nagpur. Cops have seized gold and silver ornaments looted from murdered jeweller’s house.
The Crime Branch sleuths were keeping a close watch on movement of criminals in the wake of a series of house-breakings and robberies reported in the past few days. During the trail, squad of Crime Branch Unit No. 2 came to know that the notorious criminal Yogesh alias Sonu Pandhre (24), residing in a rented house of Dr Anil Bajaj, opposite Pratapnagar Police Post, had slyly left the city. The Crime Branch sleuths tracked the location status of the goon with the help of City’s Cyber Cell and found him staying in village Bori, Tehsil Darwha, District Yavatmal. Once tracked, the squad of Crime Branch Unit 2 left on the trail of the accused criminal Yogesh alias Sonu Pandhre and laid a trap at the location. As expected, the goon fell into the net of the waiting cops.
The accused Yogesh alias Sone was brought to the office of Crime Branch in city and subjected to intense interrogation. The hardcore goon buckled under the questioning and spilled the beans. He confessed his role in breaking open of a donation box kept at Nagoba Mandir in Sakkardara area on 30.5.2017 and decamping with cash. The accused, subsequently, was placed under arrest based on his confession. He was produced in a court and his police custody remand was procured. During custodial interrogation, the accused Yogesh alias Sonu also confessed of dacoity at the house of a jeweller named Agrawal in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh and the jeweller’s murder in April this year. The Crime Branch contacted the Kharasiya Police Station of Raigarh district, Chhattisgarh for confirmation of the dacoity and murder of the jeweller. The Kharasiya police corroborated the incident and also registration of the offence No. 158/17 in which a few kilograms of gold and silver along with cash were looted by the accused Yogesh alias Sonu and his accomplices. The Chhattisgarh police also informed the Crime Branch that a Nagpur-based accused named only as Sonu (full name was not known at that time) was absconding. Armed with the information, city cops further subjected the accused Yogesh to interrogation and he confessed of hiding his share of gold and silver ornaments.
Later cops recovered 2.61 kg of silver ornaments worth Rs 1.50 lakh and 122 gram gold ornaments worth Rs 3 lakh looted from the murdered jeweller in Chhattisgarh.
The successful task was accomplished by API Sachin Lule, constables Battulal Pandey, Ravindra Gawande, NPCs Prakash Wankhede, Baljit Thakur, Sepoys Sayyed Wahid, Shyam Gorle, Cyber Cell’s police sepoy Rahul Dhote, Vijay Lekurwale, Ashwin Pillewan under the guidance of Police Commissioner Dr K Venkatesham, Joint Police Commissioner Shivaji Bodkhe, DCP (Detection) Sambhaji mKadam and ACP Somnath Waghchaure.
