Crime Branch team seizes flavoured tobacco products worth over Rs 7 lakh

Nagpur:In a recent operation, UNIT-05 of the Crime Branch apprehended a Tata Intra B-50 truck (MH39/BZ-0082) and confiscated banned flavoured tobacco products valued at Rs 7.07 lakh. Two individuals, Lokesh Gyaneshwar Mahurle (26) of Plot No 01, Gulshan Nagar, Kalamna, and Sagar Manoj Gaur (23) of Bajeria Chowk, Ganeshpeth, were arrested for the illegal transportation of the prohibited items. The intercepted truck itself, estimated at Rs 13 lakh, was also seized.

The two other accused, Aditya Gaur (30) from Hansapuri Khadan, and an individual identified only as Jain, are currently at large.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Aditya Gaur and Jain had placed orders for various flavoured tobacco products, including Rajshree Pan Masala, Rajnigandha Pan Masala, Baba Black Deluxe, Pan Bahar, Khandani Pan Masala, Vimal Pan Masala, and other similar items. The intention behind these purchases was illegal distribution and sale in the city and its surrounding areas.

A case has been registered against all four accused under Sections 188, 272, 273, and 328 of the Indian Penal Code, coupled with Section 59 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, and Section 7(3), 20 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act. The legal actions were initiated at Lakadganj Police Station.

The arrests were carried out by Police Inspector Rahul Shire, Police Sub-Inspector Ashish Kohale, and their team, under the supervision of senior officers from the Crime Branch.
