Nagpur: Central Railway’s Nagpur Division has introduced a new initiative to provide digital payment facilities at reserved and unreserved ticket counters using QR code devices. This innovative solution is now available at counters across the division, making the ticket-purchasing process more convenient for passengers and promoting the use of cashless transactions.
From Sept 1 to October 20, Nagpur Division issued unreserved tickets worth Rs 1.23 crore for 1.54 lakh passengers and reserved tickets amounting to Rs 1.49 crore for 26,489 passengers. With the introduction of QR code payment options, passengers can now make quicker and easier digital payments without the need for physical cash or change.
This initiative builds upon the success of previous digital systems, such as mobile ticketing for reserved tickets and the UTS on mobile app for unreserved tickets.
By integrating QR code devices at ticket counters, Central Railway is taking a significant step towards a more seamless, efficient, and cashless ticketing experience for passengers.
The new system reduces the time spent at counters by completing transactions quickly. Passengers can pay effortlessly through the QR code scanning via UPI or mobile banking apps. Besides, passengers no longer need to worry about handling cash or receiving exact change.
According to Senior DCM Aman Mittal, quicker transactions have led to shorter waiting times at ticket counters. This move aligns with Indian Railways’ broader strategy to promote digital payments and improve operational efficiency across the network. Central Railway encourages passengers to adopt this new technology, ensuring a smoother and more convenient travel experience from the first step of their journey.
He appealed to passengers to take advantage of the QR code payment system, making their ticket-buying process faster and hassle-free. The introduction of QR code payment systems at ticket counters is a welcome step towards modernising the ticketing process and enhancing passenger convenience. By embracing digital payments, the railways is ultimately contributing to a more efficient and passenger-friendly railway network across the country.
