Nagpur: “Behavioral transformation and cumulative societal efforts are essential to make our roads safer and accident-free,” said DCP Traffic Archit Chandak during the Road Safety Awareness Campaign organized by Ismaili CIVIC at RBI Square, Nagpur. The campaign, aimed at promoting road safety, was conducted simultaneously at multiple locations including Old Katol Naka, Variety Square (Sitabuldi), Shankar Nagar Square, and Telephone Exchange.
DCP Chandak, who visited RBI Square and Shankar Nagar Square, expressed concern about the rising number of fatalities in road accidents. He applauded the innovative approach of Ismaili CIVIC in creating awareness and engaging the public in such an enthusiastic manner. He was welcomed and felicitated by Dr. Suleman Virani, President of the Ismaili Council for Central, Northern, and Eastern India. Other key members present at the event were Dr. Jasmine Ajani, Local Council President, Aashima Jiwani, Regional Council Secretary, Farhana Ahmed, Chief of Ismaili CIVIC Nagpur Board, and Hussain Ajani.
Dr. Suleman Virani highlighted the importance of the initiative and informed DCP Chandak about the various global activities undertaken by Ismaili CIVIC. He emphasized the organization’s global efforts across 36 countries and 600+ programs, focusing on areas like environmental conservation, cleanliness, health and lifestyle, poverty eradication, and the upliftment of underprivileged communities.
Virani thanked Nagpur traffic police and noted that small yet significant measures can prevent road accidents, citing recent traffic police data. The main causes of road accidents, such as speeding, driving without helmets, ignoring traffic signals, and using mobile phones while driving, contribute to the high rate of road fatalities in India. With lakhs of lives lost each year due to road safety negligence, the campaign aimed to bring awareness to these critical issues.
Citizens from the Ismaili community of Nagpur, spanning different age groups, participated zealously in the campaign, delivering vital road safety messages at busy traffic junctions. Around 12-15 volunteers, including Scouts and Guides from the Ismaili community, actively contributed to ensuring the smooth execution of the campaign, making it a meaningful and successful initiative in promoting road safety.
Farhana Ahmed, Chief of Ismaili CIVIC Nagpur Board informed that similar activities will be taken up frequently and will associate with Nagpur Traffic police during January dedicated as Traffic awareness month.
