‘Curious operation’: Doctor couple ransacks each other’s clinics, steal medical tools

Nagpur: In a curious turn of events, a doctor couple ransacked each other’s clinics and took away medical equipments and other valuables collectively worth Rs 9.60 lakh. The baffling incident occurred at Shewalkar Building near Laxmi Bhavan Square in Gokulpeth in a period of one month. The doctor couple, it seems, was separated. Cops have booked both the doctors on the basis of complaint-counter complaint and started investigations.

A resident of G-128, Gayatri Nagar, near Hotel Gayatri Inn, IT park Road, Dr Rashmi Amit Ghatge (36) in her complaint told Ambazari police that she runs a Gums and Bone Clinic situated at Shewalkar Building, near Laxmi Bhavan Square. The clinic, however, was closed since March 7, 2019.

But on Wednesday, April 3, when she went to her clinic she found the clinic ransacked and the material lying outside. When Dr Rashmi Ghatge inspected her clinic she noticed medical machine, dental material, laptop and other things worth Rs 5.20 lakh stolen. Dr Rashmi accused her husband Dr Amit Vijay Ghatge (43) od ransacking her clinic and stealing the medical material and other stuff. The incident took place between March 7 and April 3, 2019.

Ambazari PSI Ambhure, based on Dr Rashmi Ghatge’s complaint, booked the accused Dr Amit Ghatge under Sections 427, 454, 457, 380 of the IPC and launched investigation.

The case took bizarre turn when Dr Amit Ghatge, a resident of Plot No. 48, Royal Edifice, Central Railway Colony, Omkar Nagar, lodged a counter complaint against his doctor wife. In his complaint, Dr Amit Ghatge told police that he runs ENT One Clinic at Third Floor, Shewalkar Building, near Laxmi Bhavan Square.

Between March 13 and April 3, 2019, the accused Dr Rashmi Ghatge gained entry into his clinic by opening shutter locks by using duplicate keys and took away medical equipment, mobile phone, gold ornaments and cash Rs 1.50 lakh collectively valued at Rs 4.40 lakh.

Ambazari ASI Ashish, acting on Dr Amit Ghatge’s complaint, booked the accused Dr Rashmi Ghatge under Sections 454, 457, 380 of the IPC and mounted an in-depth probe into the entire episode.
