Goad Coast: Wrestler Sushil Kumar on Thursday won a gold in men’s freestyle 74 kilogram category men’s wrestling competition at the 21st Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2018 here on Thursday. Sushil overpowered Johannes Botha of South Africa by technical superiority in the final.
At the Commonwealth Games 2018, Sushil Kumar had earlier wrestled in the men’s 74 kilogram freestyle category to enter the finals of the CWG. Defeating Australia’s Connor Evans, Kumar advanced to the finals of the CWG 2018.
Reaching finals of the games hasn’t been easy for the wrestler. Earlier, Kumar, the defending champion in the men’s 74kg freestyle category, had overpowered Jevon Balfour of Canada by technical superiority to enter the quarter-finals.
Another such technical superiority in the CWG 2018 was over Pakistan’s Muhammad Asad Butt which had advanced him into the semi-finals. On Thursday, Sushil Kumar beat Australia’s Evans to enter the finals.
He had won gold in the now disbanded 66 kilograms category at the 2010 edition in New Delhi before winning the 74 kilograms title at the 2014 CWG in Glasgow, Scotland.
