Nagpur: Cyber criminals hacked the cell phone of a middle-aged man and siphoned off over Rs 18.30 lakh from his two bank accounts.
The 56-year old victim, Nana Motiramji Khade, a resident of Plot No 166, Laxmi Nagar, Mahajanwadi, Wanadongri, Hingna Road, has two accounts in Bank of Baroda, Hingna Branch and HDFC Bank, Ramtek. Both the accounts are linked to his cell phone. Khade and his family had gone on a pilgrimage to Kedarnath in Uttarakhand from May 26 to June 11, 2024. His mobile phone developed some snag and it stopped functioning during the tour.
After returning to Nagpur, he got his phone repaired. When he switched on the phone, he was shocked to find some cyber fraudsters transferred Rs18.30 lakh online from his two bank accounts to different accounts.
Following a complaint lodged by Khade, MIDC Police registered a case under Sections 419, 420, 465, 467, 468, 471, 34 of the Indian Penal Code, read with Sections 66(c), 66(d) of the Information Technology Act, and initiated an investigation.
